Our school will accept discretionary places. Our school will participate in the Secondary School Places Allocation System through central allocation stage (Applicable for admission to S.1 in September 2023 ).Admission Criteria for Application for Secondary 1 Discretionary Places are as follows: A conduct of grade B or above of applicants is a basic requirement for admission. “Discretionary Places Rank Order” offered by the EDB (60%), Academic performance in English in Primary 5 and 6 (10%), Performance during the interview (30%), Bonus marks (1-10%) will be awarded to outstanding performance in non-academic aspects.

Orientation Activities and Healthy Living

From July to August, the school organises the "JS1 Orientation and English Program", "JS1 Gospel Camp" and "JS1 Parents Activity" in which the teachers and current students will help the new students and their family understand more about the school to ensure that freshmen can adapt to the secondary school life as soon as possible. These activities also provide support for students to acquire knowledge of various subjects in English.
To cater for students’ physical well-being, the Health and Hygiene Concern Group promotes health education on campus. School Facilities (for Supporting Students with Special Educational Needs)

All classrooms are equipped with LED TVs or electronic whiteboards, and Apple TVs. Student desks and chairs are also replaced in stages. The school has also set up the Reading Paradise, Book Crossing Corner, English Corner, Campus TV/Central Broadcasting Control Room, Religious and Student Activity Center, Climbing Wall, Life Education Center, Student Counselling Center, Liberal Resource Center, Maker Space and Student Career Counselling Center. The entire seventh floor is the "Creative Learning Resource Center", which is equipped with an open-air garden to create a tranquil place for students to read and explore. Besides, the Multimedia Creative Center, the Music Training Center and the Tranquility Lane have been established recently to provide students with an ideal learning environment.

School's Major Concerns:
2021-2024 School's Key Concerns are “To nurture students to become proactive and conscientious self-directed learners” and “To enhance students' sense of belonging to the school and further develop the culture of care”. This is to nurture students’ motivation and exploratory spirit in learning; to create cherishable memories among teachers and students; to make opportunities for high display; and to build students’ character.

School Management Organisation:
The school is led by a group of enthusiastic school managers. Under the management of IMC, regular staff meetings are held. The Administration Committee, Learning and Teaching Development Committee and the Student Affairs Committee are also set up to co-ordinate, plan, develop and evaluate the school work, making good use of the human resources and various grants to provide quality education to students.

The Incorporated Management Committee is composed of members from the school's sponsoring body, independent persons, the Principal, staff members, parents and alumni to ensure effective deployment of resources for the all-round development of students and advancement of the school.

School Green Policy:
The school strives to achieve sustainable development on campus through new initiatives and various activities, including Leopard Tortoise Raising Program, Desalination Plant Project, Ecosystem Ball making, etc. The school was also awarded the First Place in the first City I&T Grand Challenge under the theme of Environmental Sustainability. The environmental concepts are even applied on campus. Moreover, the organic farming garden allows students to experience from seeding to harvesting, and from harvesting to cooking. Students learn to cherish and be grateful for food through this experiential learning. The school also participates in the "Sai Kung District Ecological Recreation Competition” for students to understand the importance of wetlands and the roles of humans in environmental protection.

Learning and Teaching Plan

Whole-school Language Policy:
The school has enriched the language environment to enable our students to be biliterate and trilingual. We also actively cooperate with the Education Bureau to implement the fine-tuning policy of language teaching in junior forms. Some students learn the following subjects in English: Mathematics, Science, Scientific Investigation, Foundation of Business, Geography, History and Computer Technology and Living. Other subjects are supplemented with English vocabulary. Students in the senior forms can choose to take the HKDSE subjects in English. The teacher-student ratio in senior form Chinese and English lessons is reduced to enhance learning and teaching effectiveness. Our school's ceremonies, announcements and publications are all conducted in biliterate and trilingual modes. With teachers from different subjects actively cooperating with the English Department, our school has created a language-rich environment. In addition, the school has hired two Native-speaking English teachers to strengthen students' English listening and speaking training. A Norwegian missionary in Hong Kong often talks with students in English on campus to promote gospel work. Moreover, EMI Bridging courses and activities are offered to equip students with the skills of learning English.

Learning and Teaching Strategies:
The school strives to cultivate students' generic skills, especially creativity, critical thinking, communication and cooperation skills, helping students to establish clear learning objectives. Students are also equipped with effective reading and time management strategies as well as note-taking skills. With these skills, students are able to develop independent thinking and problem-solving skills by exploring current issues, case studies and field trips. Different disciplines of the school focus on the development of diversified learning and teaching strategies, such as the emphasis on problem-solving and abstract thinking in Mathematics; the diverse creative inventions and experimental designs in Integrated Science and Computer Technology and Living; the discussion of various topics or issues in Humanities subjects. Also, experiential learning and model teaching methods are widely adopted to nurture students' humanistic qualities. The school attaches great importance to the use of e-learning to enhance students’ learning motivation and interest. A school-based "Bring Your Own Device" (BYOD) policy is implemented in secondary one to four to allow students to practise self-directed learning in order to enhance teaching and learning effectiveness.

2. Curriculum highlights: Life Education Curriculum in S1 & 2 helps students set their life goals and learn to have self-management. Thinking Education Curriculum in S1 helps students learn different kinds of thinking methods and learning strategies. Project Learning Curriculum in S2 is specially designed for students to foster their attitude of exploration and to build up a sound foundation of research skills. Religious Studies aims to help S1 to S6 students know about the Bible and Christian faith and values. S1 to S3 students learn how to use the 3D printer, computer design and craftsmanship through Computer Technology and Living, in response to STEAM education and to inspire students' creativity. In addition, the school offers cooking and sewing courses to enhance students' life skills.

Development of the Four Key Tasks:
Moral, Civil and National Education: Student Affairs Committee sets a six-year education system with an aim to encourage students to set goals for a desire for knowledge, growth and God, instilling students with positive values, and to develop national identity in students on personal, social, national and global levels. Information Technology for Interactive Learning: The promotion of e-learning equips our teachers with pedagogical content knowledge to facilitate the paradigm shift of learning and teaching so that students could be able to learn through online platforms, which enables the alignment of pre-lesson, within-lesson and post-lesson learning activities. It is intended that students are highly motivated to learn, and their diverse learning needs could be accommodated. Project Learning: Through systematic curriculum integration and cross-curricula project learning, students' 21st Century skills together with generic skills are nurtured. Student Support

Whole School Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity:
The school has set up the "Gifted Education Committee", "Extended Learning Committee" and "Special Learning Needs Committee" to formulate a comprehensive school-based policy to cater for the diverse needs of students. The policy includes ability grouping, differentiated teaching strategies, and various after-school extended learning courses.

Whole School Approach to Integrated Education:
To practise inclusive education in our school, we adopt the ‘whole-school approach’ in supporting students with special educational needs (SEN). Our SEN Committee comprises of the Vice Principal (L&T), Vice Principal (Student Affairs), SEN coordinator, educational psychologist, counselling teachers, qualified counsellors and teaching assistants. To support SEN students to learn, the Committee holds after-school remedial classes for junior form students in a smaller class size to cater for learning diversity. In addition, our school speech therapist helps students improve their comprehension and communication skills. Our psychologists also have assessments with students to identify their needs so as to help us tailor-make respective adjustments to their learning. To provide emotional support, our counsellors offer counselling sessions for individuals and organise regular social training groups for students in need. We also emphasize home-school collaboration. Parents are invited to get involved in policy-making discussions for student support.

Measures to provide adaptation for Learning and Assessment:
Through continuous assessment, we are able to achieve effective learning, cultivate students' good study habits, and examine what they have learned, and constantly strive for progress. There are two semesters throughout the year, and the assessment scope includes class performance, homework and three examinations (junior forms). The school will also make adaptations to the examinations and provide individual support (e.g. exam revision classes) in response to the needs of special candidates.

Home-School Co-operation and School Ethos

Home-School Co-operation:
The Parent-teacher Association, with parents and teachers forming a standing committee, has organised and promoted a wide range of activities. Apart from being a parent manager and participating in school management, parents also serve as volunteers to support school activities. The school regularly organises parents’ meetings with class teachers, a series of parent education activities and parental fellowship to strengthen home-school communication and help students grow. The monthly "Gather with You" activity for parents allows the principal and parents to care for the children of Queen Maud Secondary School together by sharing faith and prayer.

School Ethos:
The school embodies a pristine school spirit, a rigorous style of study, and a positive academic atmosphere. We aim to cultivate students' morality and provide students with an all-rounded curriculum based on biblical truth and values with the slogan “Together we build a community of care. With passion, we extend our learning community”.
As a community of care, the Class Management Group coordinates activities, such as ‘ Growth Tree’, ‘Retreat Day’, ‘Fun Day’, etc. Together with the dual class teacher system, the school strengthens the culture of care on campus. Teacher Professional Training and Development:
The school regularly organises knowledge management and professional development activities for teaching staff, such as organising learning circles, peer observation, collaborative teaching, new teacher training, class management, and middle management training to enhance teaching and management and promote the school development. "Life Planning Education":
Our school puts strong emphasis on career planning. The Career Education Counselling Group is further optimizing the diverse career guidance services. In addition to providing information on further studies and recommendations by career teachers, our school has been granted the Child Development Fund and has recruited a Child Development Fund Curriculum Development Officer to offer personal career counselling for students, offering a three-year mentorship scheme for over 50 students. In addition, students are provided with personal guidance for further studies according to the needs of their growth stages, and set life goals and development paths in accordance with their personal interests, abilities, aptitudes and characteristics. We focus on helping our junior students understand themselves, nurture interests, and establish short-term as well as mid-term learning goals and directions. Meanwhile we mainly assist the senior students to learn about different jobs and professions, and introduce pluralistic ways of career development. The school also arranges mock interviews, seminars, workplace experiences and visits for senior students to pursue their dreams.
